Needles Aren't So Bad

Today I experienced the miracle wonders of acupuncture for the first time.   I added this to the list because; over the past 2-3 years I have experienced some pain with my knees. The pain isn’t always consistent but, flare-ups would be caused by the attempt to jog, wear high heels for a long period of time or even when whether conditions are on the chilly side. Therefore, I thought this would be the perfect time to try some holistic methods to conquering the pain because if you know anything about me you know that I absolutely dislike taking any type of medicine.

Ok, so moving along to my experience, I walked into City Acupuncture and immediately the mood was welcoming, cozy and relaxing sort of like the mood you set just before you begin your mediation.  After filling out my paper work I was escorted to the back room where selected the bed of my choice. The specialist came over and I explained to her the discomfort I felt in my knees and she began asking me a series of questions.  Did you know that acupuncture could be used to treat all types of symptoms and illnesses?  Next, I laid down on the bed an in went a few needles; starting at the ankle, moving up to the knee, my hands and one in the middle of my forehead.  As the needles went in you feel a little pinch however, in certain places I was told to take a deep breathe just before it was inserted, and boy did I need that deep breath.  When the needle went into the right knee, where I usually have the pain, I felt this sensation go through my bones.  I’m not quite sure how to describe it but, it was like someone just hit a nerve and I started to feel a little numbness (which was normal).  Once all the needles were in I did my best to retrain from moving in order to avoid the needles from shifting or going deeper into the skin.  After about 20 minutes I was able to take my mind off of what was actually happening and that’s when my body went into relaxation mode, mediation began and on came a little nap – LOL.   One hour later, the needles came out and I felt Great.  I’ll see how things go over the next couple of days and if the pain subsides I may just have to book a few more sessions.  :)   I totally recommend trying this it may just help ease your pain.

Special thanks to the staff at City Acupuncture for a great first time experience; you totally rock!

Blessings Always,
